So I just wanted to update this with some thoughts after finishing 0079 series, watching the movies (out of curiosity to see the differences) and Gundam The Origin, first I think the best choice to watch 0079 after watching both is the movies, not only will they take less time, but do fix some ridiculous stuff from the series and also adds some better animations for some parts, now before I started watching all these the recommendation was to watch The Origin after 0079 and so I did, but to be honest I think The Origin would've been a better starting point, it feels that it was made with that intention, a bunch of plots are built like a setup for what comes in 0079 instead of a retrospection like most prequels would do, also for a bunch of secondary characters I couldn't remember if or when I saw them on 0079, had to google in the middle of watching, but Origin makes them more rememberable, so watching it first would work better than the way I did. It's just gonna get better with each rewatch, the more you know about the timeline, but Unicorn stands on it's own just fine. It's not like you're gonna be put out by the need to rewatch it after having more context about Char, or Cyber-newtypes, or the Ple's specifically, or whatever.

Unicorn has 2 differnt versions even, The OVA and the TV cut RE:0096. but please don't think that you "have to" watch them in timeline or production order. also 08th MS Team, War in the Pocket, Stardust Memory, Thunderbolt, The Origin, etc. You absolutely should watch 0079, Zeta, ZZ, and Char's Counterattack. or watching 50 episodes of a cancelled TV anime from 1979?Īll of the core UC timeline shows are relevant to Unicorn in different ways, but that also means Unicorn is relevant to all the core UC Timeline shows as well. watching a short OVA with great modern production, ost, animation, and story. Which do you think needs more motivation for a new viewer.

Having seen it is just as likely to make watching the older shows more enjoyable as the other way around. It's more than a bit unreasonable to tell someone they "Have to" watch 200 episodes worth of cartoons from 30-40 years ago or else the won't be able to enjoy it. Honestly, this is my problem with people who say this stuff about Unicorn.

I started watching this 'cause I wanted to catch up on UC, to watch Unicorn in the end since everyone says it's really good but I was told I HAD to watch this, Z, ZZ and a couple movies/OVAs, but I don't think I can sit through 100 more episodes of the same so are the next ones (Z, ZZ) just as bad as 0079?
